New Year, New Gear
I have managed to obtain a new MacBook Pro of the retina display variety as the new year begins. I've had it for a day or two now and so far it's pretty mind blowing.
The last time I bought a MacBook Pro was back in 2006, right when the Core 2 Duo made its presence known. It was the second generation intel MacBook. As in, it was only the second iteration of intel Macs. That was a very long time ago. There has been a redesign or 3 since then, hardware has moved forward at least 6 or 7 generations, and so on.
Admittedly, I could still use my nearly 8 year old MacBook Pro if the screen hadn't died, the video card didn't overheat and shut the thing down after 10 minutes, you know, little things. Besides that, it still runs remarkably fast on Snow Leopard.
But then again, this thing is insane in comparison. It's the lower tier 15" model. Quad Core i7, 8 gigs of RAM, and PCIe SSD storage. It's instant fast. I can open literally anything, and before I can blink my eyes, it's ready to go. Photoshop, once a program that could bring most computers to their knees, now opens in roughy a half second. Crazy fast. Just to clarify, it's fast.
So, I have my photo editing setup all ready to go and everything just happens. No waiting, no processing, just happens. It's amazing. So I went out and took some random pictures in the snow today to give it a test drive. Here's to many more to come in 2014.
